In 2017, when I first set foot in Barcelona, little did I know the ride I was in for – a rollercoaster of emotions wrapped around the journey of buying and eventually selling our family home.

Idealista, Fotocasa, Habitaclia – these websites threw options at me like confetti, leaving me more bewildered than clear-headed. And here's the kicker: I hadn't even thought about getting a property buyer to steer me right. I thought I could do it all by myself. It took me over 4 months to find what I wanted, though the property we bought had been on the market for 4 years.

Life, ever unpredictable, threw me into the seller's ring during my  divorce. Round two of the real estate adventure was just as wild. The moment our place hit the market, it was like a phone call marathon with agencies wanting me to sign a contract. This is when I learnt my second lesson: a contract in exclusivity would have saved me time and money!
The irony hit hard when I think of me today as I'd become the guy I used to screen calls from three years ago! Walking a mile in the real estate agent's shoes showed me a side of the job I never got from the other side of the phone.
